LITERALLY GREEN PROJECTS

URBAN FARMS PROJECTS | CENTRAL REGION | SP

Food Production in the Midst of São Paulo’s Skyscrapers

Floresta Urbana + 4D designs and operates urban farms on building rooftops in downtown São Paulo. The pilot will be implemented in partnership with the German Institute KATALYSE, ECF FARMSYSTEMS from Berlin, technology transfer from Italian GREENTECH, and the São Paulo-based AQUAPÔNICA and CIDADES SEM FOME, whose experiences are included in this pilot project. We have been granted funding from the European Union and have resources to develop proposals and designs.

GREEN ROOFS | SANTA TERESA – RJ | 2018

Green Roofs in a Rio de Janeiro Residence

The two extensive green roofs made by Floresta Urbana in June 2018, on Rua Cândido Mendes/Rio de Janeiro, are developing into a suspended green cover. The increased thermal resistance combined with evapotranspiration, provided by the green roof, results in greater comfort inside the residence and reduced or no energy spent on environment air conditioning. On hot days, studies record a variation of about 6°C difference between conventional roofs compared to green roofs. Today, in early November 2018, on the eaves of its 42m² garden, vines are hanging, creating true suspended gardens.

LIVING MOSAICS | SP | 2015-16

Implementation of Vertical Garden and Artistic Integration on a Blind Wall in São Paulo

The Living Mosaic was implemented on a large blind wall located in Pinheiros, representing the integration of arts – vertical landscaping, graffiti, and cinema – and was Floresta Urbana’s first experience with food production. On the 35 m² vertical garden, UPNCs (unconventional food plants) were grown, nourished by rainwater collected from one of the rooftops and pumped through an automated irrigation system powered by solar energy. The initial project was meant to last 3 months but was extended to 15 months due to the success of its benefits and system self-sufficiency. Supported by the PROAC – Braskem program.

LEVI’S JAR-JEANS | OSCAR FREIRE 2396 | SP | 2015

Self-Sustainable Green Panel of Levi’s Jeans

The Jar-jeans panel was assembled in a single day by 23 Levi’s employees. Floresta Urbana’s project was implemented by the integration workshop after selecting drought-resistant ornamental plants and jeans that did not pass quality control. After planting in their pockets, the pants were fixed along the facade of FOSP – São Paulo Oncocenter Foundation. The system included a solar panel and pump for rainwater collection and reuse. Donated by Levi’s to their long-time partner, FOSP.

PARKLETS | SP

Pioneering Parklet.

Floresta Urbana was invited by Instituto Verde, with Vitacon sponsorship, to design and execute the landscaping of the city’s first parklet next to the Conjunto Nacional, on Padre João Manuel Street in the heart of São Paulo. Two car parking spaces were transformed into a public space with environmental quality and amenity. The 9 m2 panels were pre-fabricated in Floresta Urbana’s workshop, located beside FOSP in Pinheiros, and installed and maintained even before the publication of decree nº 55.045/14 that regulates parklet implementation in São Paulo city.

GREEN DUMPSTERS

Green Dumpsters

The green dumpsters were Floresta Urbana’s first urban green space interventions starting in 2008. The implementation of lush micro forests alongside graffiti provokes diverse reactions: surprise, unease, and neighborhood tranquility by inverting construction and deconstruction concepts. It also invites users to reflect on urban greenery, awareness, and recycling. In 2011, Gilberto Dimenstein from Catraca Livre portal requested a dumpster that won the first Urban Kindness Award and subsequently traveled to the Viva Mata event, a school in Aclimação, a community in Butantã, among other locations.

GREEN CARS | SP | 2007

Series of green cars across the State of São Paulo

The greened Beetle above was part of the Carro Verde series, which has been ongoing since 2007. The project utilizes abandoned vehicles found on the streets of São Paulo. This specific edition was developed by the Bijari Collective in partnership with João Godoy from Floresta Urbana.

GREEN CONCRETE | SP |

Concrete Wall Receives PET Bottle Garden

The concrete wall located at the Sumaré metro station, in the Pinheiros neighborhood, received a 2m² vertical garden made with reused PET bottles.

The solution, developed by Floresta Urbana, is described as “Beautiful, cheap, and sustainable,” as cited by the Catraca Livre portal. In addition to recycling bottles, the system includes wires and roof tiles, which form the structure of the vertical garden.

The selection of plants includes pennyworts (dinheiros-em-penca), purple heart (lambari roxo), and peperomia, all of which have high stomatal resistance. Stomata, located on the surfaces of plants, control excessive water loss.
